October is National Cybersecurity Month

Protect yourself while using the internet.  Keep your computers and mobile devices up to date.  An antivirus does not do you much good if you do not update it periodically.  Create complicated passwords.  A strong password is at least eight characters in length and includes a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.  Watch out for phishing scams such as fraudulent emails and websites that do not look legitimate. Keep your personal information personal. Hackers use your social media profiles to figure out your passwords and security questions.  Do Not Post things like your birthdate, address, mother's maiden name, etc.  Always protect your home computer with a password.  When shopping online, make sure the websites that you use have secure technology. When you are at the checkout screen, verify that the web address begins with https (the s in this stands for secure).  Also check to see if a tiny locked padlock symbol appears on the page (this is another sign of security).  Read all site's privacy policies.
